After Kiều Công Tiễn assassinated Dương Diên Nghệ, he retreated to live in seclusion in Hoa Lư. He later returned to serve under Ngô Quyền but died of illness not long after. His son, Đinh Hoàn (Đinh Bộ Lĩnh), later established the Đinh dynasty.
